Top Ten Tuesday – Bookish Pet Peeves

Hey guys, it’s Tuesday again so it means it’s time for Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s topic is ten of my bookish pet peeves!

Going into this list I didn’t think that I had that many, but as I started writing I remembered so many other little things that bother me. I’ve tried not to go too serious with this topic and have tried to keep it to ones that we can all relate too.

  1. Dog-earing Pages

I think this is fairly obvious as I like there to be no marks within my books, especially ones that cause permanent damage. so dog-earing is definitely something that I will never do!

  1. Cracked Spines

This goes along with dog-earing as I love all the spines to be neat and have no cracks. My mum always jokes that it looks like none of my books have ever been read, I better not tell her than most of them haven’t because my TBR pile is so big!

  1. Mismatched Covers

I think this is one that annoys all of us, when the publisher decides to change the covers midpublication. This has happened to two of my favourite series and it makes me so disappointed when I see them on my shelves, especially when the original covers were so good.

  1. Mismatched Book Heights

This is another one that bothers me when I look at my shelves, books that a printed at different heights. I never understand why one book will be taller than another, so the don’t look right together. It makes me even more annoyed when it means that I can’t put them together on my shelves because the height difference is too big.

  1. Book Spoilers

I think this is a bookish pet peeve that bothers everyone, but I had to mention it. There is nothing worse that someone spoiling a book for you or you accidentally spoiling it for yourself.

  1. When You Have To Wait Several Years for the Next Book Too Come Out

This is a pet peeve that is currently bothering me as I have been waiting for over a year for the next instalment in a series that I love and the author has announced that it will be at least another year until the next one comes out. But it does give me an excuse to reread the first book when the next one comes out.

  1. Bookmarks That Are Too Long/Short for the Book

This is a pet peeve that I only discovered recently as I got a new chain bookmark but it would not fit in the book that I was reading. I suppose this links in with the books all being different sizes, but it still annoys me.

  1. Movie Adaptations that Forgets Half of the Book

We have all seen the adaptations that completely deviate from the original book and while occasionally it might work, nine times out of ten it is just annoying, especially if it is one of your favourites.

  1. When a Book Has Unnecessarily Long Chapters

There is nothing worse than reaching a chapter and it just seems to go on forever. I love short, snappy chapters so I would rather get 100 chapters than 10.

  1. When a Chapter Stops in the Middle of an Action Scene

And finally, when a chapter stops in the middle of the action, especially if it switches POV at the same time. There is nothing worse than settling in to see all the drama and then something changes.

So there you have it ten of my bookish pet peeves, let me know some of yours down in the comments below!
