Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing well! As it is Friday it is time for another edition of Let’s Talk Bookish. Let’s Talk Bookish is a weekly meme hosted by Rukky @ Eternity Books and Dani @ Literary Lion. This weeks topic is what makes a book beautiful.
I am always drawn into a book when it has a beautiful cover. There is just something about a beautiful cover that makes me want to pick a book up and read more about it, no matter the genre if it has a beautiful cover I will probably be buying it.
What makes a book beautiful to you?
To me all books are beautiful, could I be any more cliche. But there are some things on a book that I absolutely love. I love when a book has foil embossing, especially as I read all my hardcovers with the dust jackets off, so it gives people something to look at and admire. I also love a cover with some kind of meaning or message that will become clearer the further into the story you get. For example the new Shadow and Bone paperbacks or The Bone Season paperbacks.
Are there certain covers you’re drawn towards, and certain styles you stay away from?
I’m always more drawn to a plain cover, which I know sounds weird but I like a cover that doesn’t have anything dramatic on it. My favourite covers just have one emblem or focal point without anything else on it. I also love it when there is cohesion across a series, whether that be the same colours or the same style. The only thing that I don’t like on my covers is real people/photographs. There is something about that that never draws me in to look at a book probably because I find it a bit creepy.
What are some of the most beautiful covers you’ve seen?
Some of the most beautiful covers that I have seen are These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong, The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon and Raybearer by Jordan Ifueko.
