Best Books of 2020

Hi everyone, hope you are doing well. I thought for today I would let you know some of my best books of 2020. 2020 gave me some of my favourite books, so I wanted to talk about them some more.

These are in a completely random order, it was just the order that they came into my brain. All my opinions are my own, and I know that not everyone may have loved/liked them.

Without further ado, here are my best books of 2020.

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

I knew that I love would love whatever Brandon Sanderson book that I picked up first. So to ease myself in I decided to read Skyward. I really enjoyed it, especially the way that it described the science and technology behind the civilisation. The main character of Spensa grew on me as the book continued, and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series will bring.

House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas

44778083

I could have put several Sarah J. Maas books on this list, but I decided to go with my favourite of the year. I loved the relationship between Bryce and Hunt and can’t wait to see where their relationship is going to go in the future. But with Sarah J. Maas I’m not sure that Hunt will be the final love interest. I hope the sequel is coming out later in 2021, but it has not yet been confirmed, fingers crossed.

The Song Rising by Samantha Shannon

31451267

All of The Bone Season Series could be on this list, but I decided to go with the most recent book in the series. I love the world that Samantha Shannon has created; it is like nothing I have ever read before. Paige is a fantastic main character, and it is brilliant to see Demisexuality represented within a book, as it is not normally. I hope we get more romance between Paige and Warden, as it has been a very slow burn so far. I can’t wait to see what The Mask Falling will be like, even though I am sure it will break my heart.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong

50892212

These Violent Delights was the most recent book added to this list because I absolutely adored it. It is a Romeo and Juliette retelling which is something that I love. Roma and Juliet have the most amazing friends-lovers-enemies relationship, and I can’t wait to see what will happen next. It is set within 1920’s Shanghai, and I love the setting and the way that Chloe Gong has created the world. I can’t wait for the sequel to be released, as These Violent Delights ends on a massive cliff hanger.

Check Please Volume 2 by Ngozi Ukazu

Check Please is a comic series that has taken a place in my heart. I love the relationship between Jack and Bitty and thought it was adorable. I loved that while the story was cute and had some funny moments, it also tackled some harder topics. I have no clue about Ice Hockey, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment of series. My only problem was that I didn’t discover it earlier. I can’t wait to see what Ngozi Ukazu writes next.

The Court of Miracles by Kester Grant

I love anything inspired by Les Misérables, so when I heard about The Court of Miracles, I hoped I would love it. And thankfully, I did. I loved Kester Grant’s take on the story and how she adapted it to make Eponine a much stronger character. I am also thankful that she completely removed Marius from the story. The Court of Miracles left off with three possible love interests, but I have definitely chosen my favourite. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen in the rest of the series.

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

52339313. sy475

Cemetery Boys was a book that I knew I would love, and I was right. I loved learning about Día de Muertos and the traditions that surround it. The romance between Yadrial and Julian had just the right amount of slow-burn to make it manageable for me. I can’t wait to see what Aiden Thomas will write next, as I’m sure it will be a hit with me.

Aurora Burning by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

40516960

I could have added any of the Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff books that I read this year. So I decided to go with the final book that I read. I love the humour in their books, and The Aurora Cycle reads as if it is a space opera. The dramatic twists in the book kept me wanting to read on. After the ending, I can’t wait to see how the series is going to end in 2021.

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

41150487. sy475

I know that this book has a lot of hype, but I just wanted to add my opinion. I am not usually a fan of ya contemporary, but I make an exception for this book. The romance between Henry and Alex was spot on, but it didn’t feel like any of the side characters were left out by the book focusing on them. While the situation may have felt a bit cliche, I loved it. I can’t wait to read One Last Stop which is Casey McQuiston’s latest release in 2021.

Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin

40024139

I have been on a real fantasy romance kick this year, and Serpent and Dove came at just the right time. I love the enemies-to-lovers romance between Lou and Reid, which had just the right amount of drama and falling in love. Historial Paris/Paris like cities are some of my favourite settings, so I loved this book’s setting. I can’t wait to finish this series in 2021; I hope that I will love them as much as the first book.

There you have it, my best books of 2020. I loved all these books, and hope that in 2021 I read some books that are just as good.
